Viticultural Heritage
Our 50-year old vines are viticultural heritage, and they deserve the best, so we decided to undertake the delicate process of restoring the vineyard by replacing the old damaged poles and wires to better serve the plants and aid the growth of quality fruit.
The process began in December 2021 and finished in March 2022.
No Wires
Just the poles and old vines, keeping each other company as they had for 52 years.
Wires
The process began by cutting, removing, and rolling up the old wires.
The wires were either recycled or re-purposed within the estate.

If only these poles could talk. 52 seasons they stood strong, taking care of the vines and supporting the beautiful fruit produced year after year. All posts are being re-purposed within the estate or donated to neighboring vineyards in need.

Precision
The new corten poles were set precisely where needed. The reduced width allows for more room to work between the vines, making a safer working environment.
The irons
These “L” shaped irons were used to keep the wires in tension. Four irons per end-post. All irons are being re-purposed within the estate.
Anchors
The anchors were chosen for their reduced size and minimal visual impact. Once connected to the endposts, all that was left was to lay out and fix the wires.
Catch wires
The new vineyard poles allowed for pairs of catch wires which facilitate work in springtime when rapid growth occurs.
A job well done
The restoration project finished just in time for bud break. It was a delicate process that brought new life into the old vineyard and now the plants are thriving and working conditions are safer for the staff. All the old material has either been re-purposed or recycled.
